Automotive Detailing Supplies for Consumers; Selling to High-End or Middle Class?

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Lance Winslow Selling automotive detailing products or car wash supplies and Do-It-Yourself (DIY) carwash kits can be a tough row to hoe. There are the big corporations who have such kits like the Mr. Clean brand and twenty or so dealer networks which sell products in major markets and deliver in vans. Still there must be hundreds of Online Internet Sellers out there promoting their products in the same way. Of course this is not an easy business to jump into. Just developing a website and putting products up online for sale is not easy at all. Many such businesses do somewhat poorly state many start-up Internet Entrepreneurs. Indeed, I agree that the issues on the Internet are not so easy. It is almost as if you need to get with another online “Everything” catalog Internet clearing house that sells many different online products, if one exists in the automotive domain, then that would even be better you see? It is hard to rank high in the search engines if you are a new website with few pages and it takes time to develop a following. And there is a ton of competition out there in cyberspace. For instance this company; www.strike3homecarwash.com . How about working deals and getting links from Muscle Cars Online or Barrett Jackson Auto Auction in Scottsdale. I agree that if you were on a website for lets say AutoTrader online recently bought out by another company, or Hemmings.com or The Robb Report or Dupont Registry. The fact is that small business sales on the Internet are a lot like networking in your local community. That is to say you need to work with others to succeed. Perhaps this article might be of interest to your online business and I hope this propels thought in 2007. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Employment Law - OCD - Unfair Dismissal - Discrimination

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Rosanna Cooper The recent case of Fairbrother v Abbey National plc [2007], concerned an employee who was employed as a customer manager since March 1998. The employee suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), a fact which at the time when she applied for the job was not made known to the employer, but which became clear after she took up her position. For the initial period of her employment, she had a good relationship with her colleagues. However, this changed in 2002 when two of her co-workers began to treat her and another employee, R, less favourably. From then on she was subjected to taunts concerning her OCD and low-level behaviour which was principally designed to upset her condition. R was taunted about her perceived low work-rate, and both R and the employee were ostracised. The situation deteriorated to the point where the two offending colleagues only communicated with the employee by e-mail, despite them all being in the same office. Following a particularly stressful week, the employee walked out on 25th July 2003. She informed the area manager, N, about the problems which had led to her leaving, and he began to investigate the complaint. The two colleagues accepted that they had behaved in an inappropriate manner towards the employee during that week, and then both apologised to N. This outcome of the investigation was passed on to the employee, and she was advised that she should arrange to have a cup of tea with her two colleagues to try to resolve their differences. She was also told she could have faced a disciplinary hearing for walking out on the 25th. On 13 August, she wrote a letter to N outlining the events which led to her walking out, but the letter made no reference to her OCD. Following a meeting with a member of the employers human resources department, F, it was decided that a full investigation of the events occurring in the week of the 21st July 2003 should be undertaken. A month after that meeting, the employee asked to have the events prior that week investigated as well. This second request was denied by the employer. A grievance meeting was then held to discuss the employees allegations that she had been bullied at work and that N had not conducted the initial investigation properly. These complaints were dismissed, which led to the employee to appeal against this decision. An investigation was then carried out of all the complaints that made by the employee and, on 9 February 2004, all her complaints were dismissed. Subsequently, on 7July 2004, she resigned on the grounds that her employer had failed to bring her grievances to a reasonable conclusion. The employee then brought a claim before the employment tribunal for unfair dismissal in that she had been discriminated against due to her condition. The tribunal held that she had been unfairly dismissed due to the fact that the employers lengthy grievance procedure had a number of serious flaws which meant that the employer had behaved in a way which irreparably damaged the relationship of mutual trust and confidence between it and the employee. The employees discrimination claim was upheld on the grounds that the treatment she had received from her colleagues had been detrimental and that there was a distinction between the treatment which she had received and the treatment received by R. The employer then appealed. The employer submitted that the employment tribunal had erred in finding unfair dismissal based on the alleged flaws in its grievance procedure. They argued that:- The tribunal had failed to consider whether the grievance procedure was within the range of reasonable responses available to the employer. The tribunal had been wrong to confine their considerations to the question of whether or not the employee had received different treatment; and The tribunal should have considered whether or not the employee had received less favourable treatment. The appeal was allowed. It was held that the tribunal had erred by failing to consider whether the employer’s conduct had fallen within the range of reasonable responses available to it when investigating the employee’s complaints. The tribunal had based its decision upon flaws found in the initial stage of the grievance procedure and despite the fact that these flaws had been corrected as the investigation went on, it had still erroneously found that the employer had unfairly dismissed the employee. In addition to this, the evidence before the tribunal, including evidence that R had suffered similar treatment to that complained of by the employee, showed that the relationship between the employee and the two offending colleagues had broken down, and so the behaviour was not related to her OCD. In those circumstances, the tribunal should not have allowed the employees disability discrimination claim. Therefore the employees claims were dismissed. Emerging Trends In Nursing Jobs

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Bill Sterzenbach The nursing profession has witnessed tremendous changes in the last five decades. In this continually changing environment, it is important to study the trends in nursing jobs in order to determine a successful career path.Today the demand for Registered Nurses or RNs has increased considerably, because of two factors. Firstly, relatively less fresh enrolment down the years since the turn of the century along with retirements of extant RNs has led to a shortage of trained nurses. Secondly, there is an increase in a nurse’s range of function, with rise in the number of the elderly due to improved healthcare systems and the introduction of community-based preventive projects. According to the Federal Bureau of Health professions, “In 2000, the National supply of FTE registered nurses was estimated at 1.89 million, while the demand was projected at 2 million, a shortage of 110,000, or 6 percent. Based on what is known about trends in the supply of RNs and their anticipated demand, the shortage is expected to grow relatively slowly until 2010, by which time it will have reached 12 percent”. http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/healthworkforce/reports/rnproject/report.htm - chart1 It is clearly a time for those interested in healthcare professions to join nursing, and those already working as qualified nurses to consider specialization. Pay hikes in the nursing industry in recent years are a good incentive, though the number of nurses existing is still short of that in demand. Some of the trends in the area of nursing jobs well worth considering can be both well paid and challenging. Becoming a traveling nurse has long been a popular option since some agencies began to work with travelling nurses in order to cater for temporary shortfalls in certain areas. It can combine the advantages of travelling free of cost to see a new place while enjoying free housing and other benefits. This also provides the opportunity to add a premier hospital to one’s resume. Staff nursing at Magnet hospitals is also a good option. They involve their nurses in decisions affecting the patient and the work environment and allow participation in shared governance structures. In the aftermath of a natural disaster like Katrina, the most immediately perceived need was for someone to be able to combine clinical skills with information technology. The need for electronic medical records was emphasized in the wake of the devastation left behind by the hurricane. This is the purview of the nurse informaticists who can find a niche in various areas including corporations that hire them for positions in R&D and sales, as they are able to demonstrate products to the customers. They can branch into teaching and training positions in the academia, or as systems analysts, or information officers in hospitals. There is also a surging demand for Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (ACNPs), who provide care in critical situations, where the patients have advanced, acute or chronic problems. They are usually found in Intensive Care Units(ICUs), but also work in various other areas including pediatrics, psychiatry or anesthetics. They obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, and even plan and direct treatments and investigations. Another option for the ACNPs can be in the area of genetic nursing. The mapping of the human genome means that the importance of genes and genetics in certain medical conditions cannot be ignored, and there is a need for trained nurses to simplify the geneticists’ prognosis and interpret test results for the patients and their families. Such nurses work in regional genetics networks, specialty genetic labs, and help in education, counseling, and testing. Modern medicine requires special implants and insertions in the patient’s body for a long-term venous access, especially in the case of chemotherapy or antibiotic therapies. The infusion nurses do this successfully and are usually on call in various hospitals. End-of-life nursing is another trend that has renewed interest in hospice and palliative care, and is likely to be increasingly on demand in an aging population and a national consciousness towards dignifying the death experience. Also in a post 9/11 world where the threat of bio-terrorism looms large, nursing in Public Health is seeing increased investments. In an era of technological advancements, increasing opportunities in healthcare professions and better incentives than ever before, the nursing practice is sure to become more popular, and meet increasing demands for care, comfort, knowledge and support. Dry Brushing: How To Do It, And It’s Benefits

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Denice Moffat Did You Know? The skin is the largest most important eliminative organ in the body and is responsible for one quarter of the bodys detoxification each day? The skin eliminates over one pound of waste acids each day in the average adult, most of it through the sweat glands? That the skin is known also as our third kidney? That the skin receives one third of all the blood circulated in the body? That the skin is the last to receive nutrients in the body, yet the first to show signs of imbalance or deficiency? Detoxification is performed by a number of organs, glands, and transportation systems, including the skin, gut, kidneys, liver, lungs, lymphatic system, and mucous membranes. The dry brushing technique deals with detoxification of the skin. Dry brushing is a way to stimulate all the above organs of detoxification because it provides a gentle internal massage. Dry Brushing was recommended by the Finnish Dr., Paavo Airola for his patients 30 years ago and is still popular in European spas and many cancer treatment centers today. The Russians, Turks and Scandinavians have used this treatment for centuries. Dry brushing is promoted as a preventative for dry skin and a way to exfoliate the skin, thus stimulating skin renewal that is super soft to the touch, but there are many other benefits as well: Benefits of Dry Skin Brushing Explained: 1. Removes cellulite 2. Cleanses the lymphatic system 3. Removes dead skin layers 4. Strengthens the immune system 5. Stimulates the hormone and oil-producing glands 6. Tightens the skin preventing premature aging 7. Tones the muscles 8. Stimulates circulation 9. Improves the function of the nervous system 10. Helps digestion 11. AND its easy, inexpensive and invigorating! 1. Dry brushing removes cellulite– Cellulite is a non-scientific term defined as toxic deposits of subcutaneous fat material and fibrous tissue that are not able to be eliminated and which cause a dimpling effect on the overlying skin. These deposits most commonly occur on the thighs and hips of women. Cellulite can affect men and women of any body weight or size. What causes the toxins? Well, some think that we store the breakdown product of cells as toxins in this subcutaneous tissue. Others think that toxic emotions can be stored in the subcutaneous tissue which then builds up as cellulite. Your best bets for getting rid of cellulite are dry brushing, connective tissue massage, working though the emotional issues that are causing the toxins to stagnate, eating foods that feed the skin, an alkaline diet program and a consistent/persistent exercise routine. These techniques will break down the unwelcome toxic body deposits and send them scurrying out your body through the elimination channels we discussed above. And your health will be SO much better for it! Foods that feed the skin include foods that are rich in lecithin, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants such as eggs, organ meats, a balance of Omega-3-6-9 oils like Udos Choice, fresh dark green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, berries of all kinds, and dark chocolate (in condiment amountslike an ounce a day!) 2. Dry brushing cleans the lymphatic system. Lymph is considered part of our immune system and is made of white blood cells called lymphocytes and the interstitial fluid that bathe our cells, bringing our cells nutrients and removing their waste. All detoxification occurs first and foremost through the lymph. Our bodies contain far more lymph than blood, so you can see how important this might be. Paavo Airola maintains that dry brushing is an essential part of any intestinal cleansing and healing program. Dry brushing literally moves the lymph containing large proteins and particulate matter that cannot be transported in any other way back into circulatory system. If these proteins stayed in our systems outside the blood vessels, it would attract other fluid. Pretty soon wed get swollen ankles, limbs and eventually wed be leaking fluid out our skin (not a pretty sight.) This is called lymphedema and is why most health programs include some type of exercise and body work. So, why dont we die if we dont do this dry brushing thing? Well, lymph vessels themselves have their own pumping mechanism sensing when the vessels have more fluid in them or in the interstitial fluids. Lymph only goes one way because of the many one-way valves on the insides of each lymph vessel. The body is a fascinating thing. It literally pumps the lymph along its path back to the heart. Removal of proteins from the interstitial spaces is an essential function. Without this happening, we would die within 24 hours. We can help speed this process up when we dry brush or massage toward the heart, contract our muscles and move our bodies (like when we walk or exercise.) Increased lymph flow can also be caused by high blood pressure. This is why it is so important to attend to this malady and why the doctors get into a frenzy of prescribing so many different medications for it. (Currently there are over 140 medications for high blood pressure!) 3. Dry brushing removes dead skin layers. Dry skin brushing helps shed dead skin cells, which can help improve skin texture and cell renewal. Dry skin is a sign of detoxification. Therefore its good to keep the process going by removing the dead skin daily. If this does not occur, a log jam can happen where the person ends up with eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff. 4. Dry brushing strengthens the immune system. Dry skin brushing may reduce duration of infection and accelerate the clearing of toxins. It helps support the immune system during cancer and other chronic illness treatment. By stimulating the lymph vessels to drain toxic mucoid matter into organs of detoxification we can purify the entire system. After several days of dry brushing, sometimes you may notice a gelatinous mucoid material in your stools. This is a normal sign that the intestinal tract is renewing itself. Best of all, it feels invigorating! 5. Dry brushing stimulates the hormone and oil glands, thus helping all of the body systems perform at peak efficiency. The skin is your body’s largest organ. When improperly maintained, the elimination duties of the skin are forced upon the kidneys. Chemical analysis of sweat shows that it has almost the same constituents as urine. If the skin becomes inactive, its pores choke with millions of dead cells, uric acid and other impurities which will remain in the body putting extra stress on the liver and kidneys. People with big hips and thighs usually have low-grade bladder infections. Another sign of this is that the body gives off a distinct sickening odor. When the bladder and kidney are really sick, the calves are often swollen as well and the feet stink. So, give your kidneys a breakkeep your skin clean and rejuvenated. Bathe daily and do a dry brushing before the bath to help stimulate blood flow to the surface so that toxins can more easily escape. 6. Dry Brushing tightens the skin by increasing the flow of blood which, in turn moves toxins and lessens the appearance of cellulite. Our bodies make a new top layer of skin every 24 hours - skin brushing removes the old top layer, allowing the clean new layer to come to the surface, resulting in softer, smoother skin. 7. Dry Brushing tones the muscles. Dry skin brushing helps muscle tone by stimulating the nerve endings which causes the individual muscle fibers to activate and move. It also helps mobilize fat and helps to even distribution of fat deposits. This is a great technique for invalids who cant exercise. 8. Dry brushing stimulates circulation. Our skin breathes! And yet, in most people, this vital route of detoxification is operating far below its capacity, because it is clogged with dead skin cells and the un-removed waste excreted through perspiration. Dry skin brushing increases circulation to skin, encouraging your bodys discharge of metabolic wastes. Increased blood flow begins entering the areas brushed and you will experience an increase in electromagnetic energy that permits you to feel energized and invigorated. By activating the circulation you can also prevent varicose veins. 9. Dry brushing improves the function of the nervous system–Dry skin brushing rejuvenates the nervous system by stimulating nerve endings in the skin. 10. Helps digestion — Dry skin brushing helps your skin to absorb nutrients by eliminating clogged pores. Healthy, breathing skin contributes to overall body health. When you brush, the pores of your skin open allowing your skin to absorb nutrients and eliminate toxins. Clogged pores are not just a cosmetic concern. Healthy, breathing skin contributes to overall body health. What You Need To Do Dry Brushing: To dry brush, use a soft natural fiber brush with a long handle, so that you are able to reach all areas of your body. One with a removable head with a strap for your hand is a good choice. A loofah sponge or a rough towel can also be used. Most nylon and synthetic fiber brushes are too sharp and may damage skin although I found a softer bath brush with nylon bristles that seems to do the trick. The important thing is to find something that is just right for your skin. Once your skin becomes seasoned, you can switch to a coarser brush. Tips and Tricks for Dry Brushing: Always dry brush your dry and naked body before you shower or bathe because you will want to wash off the impurities from the skin as a result from the brushing action. You can do the brushing head-to-toe or toe-to-head. It really doesnt matter as long as the entire body is brushed. Long sweeping strokes starting from the bottom of your feet upwards, and from the hands towards the shoulders, and on the torso in an upward direction help drain the lymph back to your heart. Note: Stroking away from your heart puts extra pressure on the valves within the veins and lymph vessels and can cause ruptured vessels and varicose veins. Use light pressure in areas where the skin is thin and harder pressure on places like the soles of the feet. Skin brushing should be performed once a day, preferably first thing in the morning. A thorough skin brushing takes about 15 minutes, but any time spent brushing prior to bathing will benefit the body. If you are feeling ill, increasing the treatments to twice a day is good. You can also dry brush areas of cellulite five to 10 minutes twice a day to achieve cellulite dissolving but the technique needs to be done consistently for a minimum of five months. Avoid sensitive areas and anywhere the skin is broken such as areas of skin rash, wounds, cuts, and infections. Also, never brush an area affected by poison oak or poison ivy. Finish up with your regular shower and ending with three hot and cold cycles. That means turning on the water as hot as you can take it for several seconds, then as cold as you can handle it, then hot, then cold for three cycles. End with either hot or cold. This will further invigorate the skin and stimulate blood circulation, bringing more blood to the outer layers of the skin. After getting out of the shower, dry off vigorously and massage your skin with pure plant oils such as olive, avocado, apricot, almond, sesame, coconut or cocoa butter. Add a little peanut and Castor oil to the mix if you have arthritis. Edgar Cayce says this works to take out some of the pain, and weve found that to be true over the years. Clean your skin brush using soap and water once a week. After rinsing, dry your skin brush in an open, sunny spot to prevent mildew. Any well designed program will take about 30 days to see and experience the changes. Please be patient and keep up the program! For a thorough lymphatic cleansing, perform skin brushing daily for a minimum of three months. How to Dry Brush (Easy, Fast Instructions): Begin with your feet and brush vigorously in circular motions. Continue brushing up your legs. Proceed to your hands and arms. Brush your entire back and abdomen area, shoulders and neck. Use circular counter-clockwise strokes on the abdomen. Lightly brush the breasts. Brush upwards on the back and down from the neck. Better yet, have a friend, spouse or family member brush your back. After brushing, take a hot shower with soap (about three minutes in duration), followed by a 10-20 second cold rinse. Repeat this procedure three times. If the hot/cold showers are too extreme, a warm shower can be used. Follow the shower with a rubdown with either a sponge or towel to remove dead skin. Problems with dry, flaky or thickened skin on your feet? One of my favorite products obtained from your local Rite Aid Store is called Pretty Feet & Hands Rough Skin Remover. This stuff is awesome. Shake well before using. Pour about a quarter-size puddle of fluid into the palm of one hand, then rub the areas that have lots of dry skin on them. The dry skin balls up in your hand. Rinse the areas and apply lotion. Note: You can only do this process once a day. The product doesnt work after the area is wet or after a shower. It may take up to four days for those tough areas like the feet to make the skin like new. The product appears to be safe and does not cause allergic reactions. Comic Books - The Incredible Hulk History

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Michael Russell In this article we’re going to cover the history of one of the most changing comic books and characters ever - The Incredible Hulk. The Incredible Hulk was another Marvel creation from the genius mind of Stan Lee. The character debuted in 1962 and thus began a strange evolution of a character that was probably the most tormented in comic book history. The Incredible Hulk was Dr. Bruce Banner. He was a scientist experimenting with gamma rays. Well, one of this experiments went haywire and Banner was exposed to the gamma rays himself. He was close to death and miraculously survived, but not without paying a huge price. It seems that whenever Banner became angry he would transform into this hideous green creature who became known as The Hulk. Unlike most other super heroes, The Hulk was not good. He wasn’t entirely bad either. He would come to the aid of the underdog and saved many an innocent person in his day. But he had very little affection for law and order. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that they were trying to kill him all the time. The Hulk consequently inflicted as much harm on the upholders of justice as he would do to the criminals. He was an odd bird all right. Oddly, the first comic with the green Hulk lasted only 6 issues when the appearance of the Grey Hulk hit the stands. In this incarnation Banner would transform into the Grey Hulk at night and then back to himself when dawn came. The reason for this was because Banner could not live with what he had become. So he transformed into his darker side at night to let out his ugly side, since Banner was afraid of the dark. This was done without him knowing it. In later issues however, it was done consciously. In 1964, two years after the first appearance of The Hulk, there was an issue of Tales To Astonish featuring Giant Man where he ended up meeting and fighting The Hulk. In the next issue of that book it would split into two sections. The first section would feature Giant Man and the second section would feature the Hulk. Finally in issue number 70, The Sub-Mariner took over Giant-Man’s place in the book. It wasn’t until 1968 that The Hulk took over the whole book. It was at this time that Tales To Astonish was dropped and the new title for the book was The Incredible Hulk. This is the reason why you never find issues 7 through 101 of the Incredible Hulk, the only comic book hero to suffer this comic numbering fate. The Hulk basically ran this way until 1998 when a book came out called “The Rampaging Hulk” which tells of the early history of The Hulk before anybody knew Bruce Banner was The Hulk. It lasted six issues. Finally, in 1999 The Incredible Hulk ended its run with issue number 474. But it didn’t stay dead. After the new comic titled simply “The Hulk” hit the stands, 12 issues in, the word Incredible was added back to the title. The Incredible Hulk had returned. The Hulk was such a popular character it saw its way into cartoons and a feature movie, which unfortunately was not true to the comic and quite awful according to critics. ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to Comic Books ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Comic-Books—The-Incredible-Hulk-History&id=143098 where can you buy phentermine phentermine no prescription us buy phentermine cheap 37.5 mg no doctor contact no rx cheap phentermine overnight

The Fit World of Weight Loss Pills

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Chris Read From ancient times the first and foremost wish of humans was to look good and be fit. Fitness can be considered in two ways one is physical and second is mental. Now both of them are interrelated to each other. When a person is fit mentally he can take care of his physique in a better manner in order to have a physical fitness, similarly when a person is physically fit he has a better resistance towards all the diseases which eventually keeps him mentally fit. So it is well said, a healthy mind lives in a healthy body. Now how can one have a healthy body and what are the hurdles one faces while aspiring for a fit body? First of all overweight creates a number of problems starting from low activeness ranging towards other fatal diseases like cancer and arthritis. That proves that an imbalance in weight can lead to an unfit body as well as unfit mind. Now to gain all that one always aspires for, one has to keep a tight check on his weight gain for which he has to be more careful about his diet and physical activities. Understanding the fact that this is the world of physical inactivity because of more work on computers or over the phones, more emphasis has been laid on the kind of diet we take. As it is clearly observed that fats come from the food and that is the major reason behind weight gain, experts have been trying to put a full stop in front of weight gain through a proper diet. Due to which weight loss pills have been introduced into the market. Weight loss pills act as weight suppressant, which actually tracks our calorie intake and a better metabolic rate. Do What You Love, Love What You Do

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Richard Hanes Everyone dreams of a life full of love and adventure. But we fill ourselves with reasons not to follow our dreams. Instead of protecting us, they imprison and hold us back. Life will be over before we know it, so now is the time to really live life and love. In Life Lessons, Elizabeth Kbler-Ross and David Kessler suggest that love is the only gift in life that is not lost and is ultimately the only thing we can really give. Start by loving yourself. 1. Love Yourself. To give love, you must have love. Too often we put conditions on love. Conditions on love weigh it down and keep us from loving completely. * Be Compassionate With Yourself. Dont judge, criticize or beat yourself up when you make a mistake. Cut yourself some slack. * Nurture Your Soul. Do things that make you feel good about yourself and make you truly glad you did them. Let the love in thats all around. Schedule and budget for these nurturing activities; pick something that will make you feel great and do it! * Remove Barriers. Let go of conditions you place on giving and receiving love. Give love freely with no thought of receiving love in return. Receive love with no conditions or self-criticism. Remember the Beatles song lyric from The End, And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. 2. Love What You Do. Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi, in Flow, the Psychology of Optimal Experience, identifies eight major components of enjoying an activity. His studies on flow suggest an activity is enjoyable when at least one and often all eight components are present. * Completion. We need tasks with sufficient complexity to challenge and stretch us to develop our skills but that wont overwhelm us. * Concentration. The root of concentrate means to center. We need tasks that allow us to wrap our mind around it and be challenged by it. Tasks that are too hard will overwhelm us; tasks that are too easy will bore us. * Clear Goals. Stephen Covey tells us to begin with the end in mind, to know what wed like to accomplish. A clear goal gives us a specific outcome that our mind can use to discern if we are meeting the test. * Feedback. Feedback allows you to compare your outcome to your goal. Its a symbolic message that allows you to create order in your consciousness and shift your efforts if your outcome is off course. * Deep, Effortless Involvement. Attending fully to what is happening in the present prevents our mind from filling with extraneous worries, thoughts and distractions. Applying all your relevant skills to meeting challenges focuses your attention completely, so you cease being aware of yourself as separate from your activity. You become one with it; you act spontaneously. * Sense of Control. Developing your skills so you can reduce the margin of error as close to zero as possible and being able to influence a doubtful outcome produces a sense of exercising control in difficult situations. * Self Concern Disappears. Protecting our ego, the image we hold of ourselves as separate from everything else, requires mental energy. Enjoyable activities with clear goals, stable rules and challenges well matched to our skills present no threat to our egos. Immersion in such activity strengthens our sense of being capable. * Altered Sense of Time. Immersion in challenging activity causes how we perceive time to speed up (we look up and 8 hours have passed without noticing) or slow down (like a batter watching a pitch in slow motion). Complete involvement frees us from the tyranny of time and deepens enjoyment. Pick an activity that has these traits and youll love what you do. 3. Love in Service to Others. In A Simpler Way, Margaret Wheatley and Myron Kellner-Rogers suggest that any self-expression that is not meaningful to others is irrelevant and wont survive in a systems-seeking world. So expressing what you love in service to others is your task. * Do What You Love. Identify anything that meets some or all of the eight criteria listed above for loving what you do. What would you do if money were not an object? Let your list simmer on the back burner of your subconscious. * Combine Activities You Love. List without judging the things you love to do and how you might combine them. If you love writing, travel and spirituality, you might consider traveling to spiritual sites and writing a travel guide on how to get there and what to do once youre there. Or consider organizing, marketing and guiding travel tours there. Be creative; use your imagination! * Serve Others. As you imagine possible manifestations of the activities you love, guide your imagination to ways that serve others. Remember, if youre going to make a living by doing what you love, youll need others to pay you! Make your offering something others want or need! Love and treat yourself well, learn what you love to do and do what you love in a ways that serves the needs of others! Youll be glad you did! Copyright 2005, Fruition Coaching. All rights reserved. How Sugar Makes Us Fat

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Bryan Lee Why is it that with low fat and fat free food, a trip to the beach still shows us that people are still getting fatter, fatter and EVEN fatter?! The answer lies in all the sugar loaded food inside these low fat and fat free foods. They might be low fat, but they sure left out the part that they contain high sugar! What is sugar? To understand why sugar makes us fat, we need to understand sugar and the roles it has in our body. Sugar is a form of carbohydrate, which is what provide our bodies with energy like the fuel in our cars. The Glycemic Index Carbohydrates (carbs) can be classified into two kinds, simple high GI carbs, and complex low GI carbs. GI stands for Glycemic Index, which is the scale that measures how fast certain carbs get broken down in our body. High GI (highest at 100, glucose) break down faster than low GI carbs. Low GI carbs are healthier choices because they take longer to break down whereas high GI carbs, like soft drinks, break down very fast. Why are high GI carbs bad? High GI carbs cause relatively huge insulin spikes in our body. Insulin is a hormone in our body that regulates our blood sugar. Our blood sugar has to be maintained constant because excess sugar is poisonous in our blood. To cope with this huge increase in blood sugar, the body releases an equally huge amount of insulin. Insulin also has one potent effect on our body - it stops the fat burning processes in our body and it also stores excess blood sugar as fat. With all fat burning processes in our body at a stop, and our body busy converting blood sugar into fats, of course we’re getting fatter despite all the fat-free food! Insulin resistance Worse, our body can become resistant to insulin with too many insulin spikes. Insulin resistance happens when our body no longer reacts to insulin. Sugar in our bloodstream is toxic in our body and our body’s favorite way to get rid of it is to burn it. The excess sugar that cannot be burnt gets stored as muscle glycogen and when these glycogen reserves are full, they will be stored as fat. A person who cannot convert excess sugar into glycogen or fats will suffer from the poisoning effects of excess sugar in our blood! It is not too late We are not saying that all those low fat sugar loaded foods are evil, and that you should not eat any at all. What I meant to say is that you should keep this in mind, and take such foods in moderation. Take in foods with lower GI, like oats, wholemeal bread etc. Opt for water instead of soft drinks. It is a lot healthier, and will keep your waist down! With that, I wish you all the best in your weight loss goals and a healthy life!
