Business Banking Explained

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

By Mark Lambie No matter where you are within your business, just beginning or have been in business for many years, one thing remains the same; your business needs a banking institution that is solid and great for businesses. Within this article, we will look at some of the main items you should consider when looking for a bank account for your business. There are many things you should think about when opening a new bank account for your business, each one of them should work to benefit your company in all ways necessary. For starters you should look at some of the basics, first consider what type of company you are, limited or sole trader. For a limited business, you will be required to obtain a business bank account, while a sole trader has the ability to use their personal bank accounts for any activity within their business. For those who insist or are required to have a business bank account, you should consider a institution that has a team in place specifically for businesses. Consider any fees that are associated with the bank account for example, overdraft fees or transaction feeds. Also, consider if the bank offers a period of time that is fee free for new accounts, if they offer this it is wise to take advantage of this offer. You should also look at any incentive offers that the bank gives you, for example, charge cards, free statements, or credit cards. Always check the interest rates offered on these account and consider if the chosen bank has internet banking, this is important because it allows you to have up to the minute information regarding various aspects of your account. Businesses will benefit from internet banking because it allows you to do your banking at your convenience, which we know that many busy business owners frequently do not have the time to visit the bank. When you have finally sorted out the proper banking institution for your business it is time to open your account. There are many things you will have to bring to the bank when you go, this documentation could include your business plan or other various details in regard to your business. Additionally, you will have to take along your incorporation certificate, any items necessary to prove your identity (Photo ID, utility bills, and perhaps your passport), and a list of those who are authorized to sign any company checks. Making Time to Market Your Private Practice

Friday, August 10th, 2007

By Lucy MacDonald 1. Start with a six-month plan. If you are not doing very much marketing or if you are unhappy with your marketing efforts, a six month marketing plan is a good place to start. Schedule some time in your agenda to create a marketing plan. Anticipate marketing opportunities related to holidays or special events like mental health week or national depression screening day. 2. Set monthly and weekly marketing goals. Once youve developed a six month plan, the next step is to include marketing time in your monthly and weekly agenda. How much time is enough time? If you are seeing less than 10 clients per week a good guideline is to spend at least one day per week on marketing. 3. Create a marketing to-do list. Include a variety of marketing activities like distributing your brochure, presenting a free seminar at your local library, or writing a newsletter. Create a weekly to-do list and use it! 4. Double-up your marketing efforts. Keep a good supply of brochures and business cards in your car and in your briefcase so that you can take advantage of impromptu marketing opportunities drop off brochures at a doctors office that is next door to a networking event you are attending. 5. Take time to get your office organized. A messy office can and will distract you when you are working on marketing your private practice. Do Not Be Depressed Just Do Not Trust Humans

Monday, August 6th, 2007

By Lance Winslow Many people are depressed because they have been betrayed by a spouse, loved one or perhaps a close personal friend. Perhaps the Corporation they worked at or their government has betrayed them and lied to them. You should not let this depressed you; you just have to remember not to trust human beings. Human beings have a very large brain compared to the other animals like them on the earth and they are able to use this brain to help them with deception. This allows them to remember all the lies and stories that they told to each person so they can keep up the game. I’m not sure it is wise to trust any humans at all and I am not saying that in a bad way, as it seems to be precondition and unique characteristics of the human species. However, if you are determined to trust humans then you may find yourself in a constant state of depression as you relearn lessons of the past and keep getting lied too. I think it is rather hilarious that people listen to our politician podium pushers each and every election and actually go and vote for these morons. They specialize in deception and apparently they have large enough brains to try to get away with it. Anybody who is honest and a politician they simply make up lies against them, so this means that anyone left who is elected cannot be ethical or honest. Do not be depressed just do not trust humans, it is simple and yet we trust. Consider this in 2006. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. To Repot - or Not!

Sunday, August 5th, 2007

By Briscoe White Easter was on the horizon, 40 people were on their way to our yard for an Easter Egg Hunt and the food was the last thing on my mind; my priorities are straight, and the replanting of my pots was the ONLY thing bothering me. As I anxiously awaited the arrival of annuals at The Growers Exchange, I decided to use my time wisely and clean out the old debris. Imagine my surprise, and delight, upon discovering how many of these planters were offering up their finest. In many cases, an addition of a few flowering annuals was all they needed. I had forgotten my decision of last spring; all of my pots were planted with a combination of herbs, perennials, ground covers and an assortment of flowering annuals. After a bit of snipping and deadheading and trimming, these pots were almost ready. The ajuga, both varieties, were blooming profusely. They had grown so much; I divided quite a bi and put into my woodland garden. The rosemarys were so big that I transplanted all 8 of them and are a wonderful hedge to my vegetable garden. The lamium made it through a harsh winter, as did the salvia and achillea. A bit of my ivy got leggy, so that went into the compost. But, I am happy to say that the parsley is emerging as well. Not wanting a complete repeat of last spring, I have been adding a few new items. I have always wanted to try some bulbs, so I have elephant ears planted in my largest pots. I dont know what to expect. I have filled in here and there with a few new annuals and vines and herbs. The combinations of colors and textures is truly delightful. The best part of this whole unexpected situation is that I have an ever-evolving garden in each pot! Happy Gardening! In 1985, Briscoe White opened The Growers Exchange in an abandoned Texaco station on a busy urban street corner in Richmond, Virginia. The facility has grown over the years, and is now 5 distinct growing environments with 5 acres under cover. Briscoe has over 25 years of gardening experience. Proven Techniques for Writing Persuasive Ads & Letters

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

By Joel Sussman Whether you’re writing a marketing message to one person or a million, your chances of having an impact on them really takes off when you understand what makes them tick. You’re then in a strong position to tailor your message directly to their interests, problems, needs, and aspirations. Easier said than done, but that’s where market research, asking clients the right questions, personal observation, and marketing plans fit into the picture. A marketing plan, even an abbreviated one, can be an invaluable starting point in the development of an effective ad, commercial, promotional brochure, or sales letter. Doing an analysis of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) associated with your business or the services you offer can serve as an excellent launching pad for writing persuasive advertising and sales messages. Laying the Groundwork In addition to a dash of writing talent and marketing knowledge, creating effective ads and letters require a clear focus. Knowing exactly what outcome you’re aiming for before you begin writing is comparable to mapping out your travel route before embarking on a cross country drive. For example, if your goal is to generate leads or to qualify prospects, your strategy might be radically different than if you were trying to make immediate sales or simply attract visitors to your web site. Sell The Sizzle! (not the steak) The copywriting process tends to flow a lot more smoothly if you have in front of you three lists consisting of benefits, features, and competitive advantages. Organizing them on one page in a column format is the easiest, most efficient way to manage the information. F.Y.I.: There may seem to be a thin, if not invisible, line between “features” and “benefits”, but understanding the distinction can make all the difference in your marketing success. Features are important and need to be mentioned, but benefits are the selling points that clients and prospects can relate to and identify with. Basically, benefits are features that have been personalized, elaborated on, and projected into the future. It answers the questions “What’s in it for me?”…”Why should I care?”…or “How will my life be enhanced by buying your product or service?” Crafting the Message Catching people’s attention and arousing interest can sometimes be as simple as incorporating your strongest selling point into the headline or the first sentence of your ad or letter. Several tried-and-proven headline devices for drawing people into your message include asking an intriguing question, making a thought-provoking statement, or beginning the headline with the words “How To”. Headlines that convey a sense of urgency, contain a short testimonial of a satisfied client, or have the feel of a news announcement also have been shown to get people to stop and read. By the way, one of the most powerful and successful advertising headlines of all time, which was also the title of a best-selling book written in 1936, is “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, by Dale Carnegie. The title/headline is filled with benefits, it contains the words “How To”, and it speaks directly to everyone’s strong desire to be well liked, to be in control of their lives, and to feel important. Another popular book Carnegie wrote tapped into that same formula. It’s entitled “How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.” Apparently, that double-barreled approach was especially effective for him. Many well-intended ads, brochures, and letters start out with a good head of steam, but peter out as they approach the moment of truth, namely: the call for action! If you don’t make it 100% clear exactly what you want the prospect to do after hearing/seeing your message, and if you don’t give them a compelling reason to do so, there’s a good chance you’ll lose them. As the acronym AIDA suggests, a response-producing ad or letter must first grab the Attention of the target audience, arouse Interest, trigger Desire, and then prompt Action. Without all four of those “cylinders” firing at the appropriate time, that delicate sequence of events could quickly come to a grinding halt. Hand Feeding your Koi

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

By Brett Fogle One of the most rewarding and entertaining things about having a Koi pond is when your fish finally start eating out of your hand. There is no better way to learn each fishes’ personality and temprament than to have them nuzzle your fingers when they are hungry. The key to training your Koi to eat from your hand is patience and conditioning. Like any wild animal Koi have a natural distrust for anything that they think can hurth them, and you’re plenty big enough to do that as far as they are concerned. If your goal is hand feeding then you need to start training from the very first time that you feed a new fish. Of course, it’s not too late to start training your existing fish, but it’s easier if you start out that way. If you have been feeding your fish by simply broadcasting the food on top of the water then stop doing that immediately. Instead, bring your feed bag next to the pond and kneel down. Then, place a few pellets in your hand, submerge your hand, and let the pellets slowly fall out. Don’t worry if your fish seem to not be paying attention. They know that your hand is in the water and they know that pellets just appeared out of nowhere. Eventually one or two will swim up and eat. When that happens, the rest of them will follow. Continue slowly dropping pellets from your hand until you have fed your normal amount. Repeat that process for about a week. The following week, set up as you did last week, but this time submerge your hand and hold the pellets in your slightly cupped palm. Hold your hand steady and don’t make any movements. Eventually at least one fish should come over and eat from your hand. It is essential that you do not make any quick movements while this is happening. Remove your empty hand and repeat the process. If the fish will not approach your hand to feed, then do not fedd them that day. They won’t starve to death, believe me, and they will be a little bit more likely to eat form your hand the next time that you offer them food. Once you have them to the point that they will eat form your palm, it is time to teach them to take the food directly from your finger tips. Simply grasp a pellet, submerge your hand, and wait untilt he boldest fish approaches. Once he eats the others will follow. If they don’t you know what do to. Justfeed the ones that will eat from your hand and let the others miss a meal. Hunger is a great motivator for Koi… Once you have your Koi eating out of your hands you can alternate between normal feeding and hand feeding for those times when you’re in a rush and just can’t sit down and enjoy your fish. ************************************************ Brett Fogle is the owner of MacArthur Water Gardens and several pond-related websites including macarthurwatergardens.com and pond-filters-online.com.
